Passenger Train Private Operations in India

The Indian Railways has recently opened the applications submitted by various entities in response to the RFQs for PPP in Passenger Train Operations Project. The Ministry of Railways has received a remarkable response, with a total of 120 applications for the 12 clusters, from 15 applicant firms. The Ministry had invited the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for private participation in operation of passenger train services over 12 Clusters comprising 140 Origin Destination pair of routes through the introduction of 151 modern trains to increase high-quality trains operated on the network. This marks a significant milestone for attracting private investment for running Passenger Trains over the Indian Railway Network. The project is expected to entail private sector investment of about Rs 30,000 crores. The private entities for undertaking the project will be selected through a transparent two-stage competitive bidding process comprising of Request for Qualification (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP). It is worth noting that the RFQ for 12 clusters was published on July 1st, 2020. The Ministry of Railways will promptly complete the evaluation of Applications, and RFP documents will be made available to the qualified applicants by November 2020. The Ministry has targeted to award all the Clusters by February 2021.

Mumbai to Varanasi Private Train Proposed Departure and Arrival Timings

The return journey from Varanasi departs daily at 08:40 hrs and arrives in Mumbai at 09:40 hrs, with a journey time of 25:00 hrs between stations. Covering a distance of 1496 kilometers between Mumbai and Varanasi Railway Station, this exclusive service is available daily for your convenience.

Mumbai to Kanpur Private Train Proposed Departure and Arrival Timings

Kanpur – Mumbai – Kanpur: The Mumbai and Kanpur route has now been made available for a private train through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative in Passenger Train Operations Project. The timetable for this train is as follows: departing Mumbai at 16:10 hrs every day, and the train will arriving at Kanpur at 14:10 hrs, with a total travel time of 22:00 hrs. Conversely, departing Kanpur at 17:55 hrs daily, the train will arrive at Mumbai at 15:45 hrs, with a total travel time of 21:50 hrs. The distance between Mumbai and Kanpur Railway Station is 1341 Kilometers, with a frequency of one trip per day.

Mumbai to Howrah Private Train Proposed Departure and Arrival Timings

Howrah – Mumbai – Howrah: The collaboration between the public and private sectors has resulted in a new passenger train service between Mumbai and Howrah, with an indicative route that provides a convenient mode of transportation for the public. The train departs from Mumbai at 1415 hrs daily and arrives in Howrah at 1515 hrs, with a total travel time of 25:00 hrs between the stations. On the other hand, the train leaves Howrah at 2240 hrs daily and reaches Mumbai at 2340 hrs, covering a distance of 1943 kilometers in a running time of 25:00 hrs. This remarkable train service has a frequency of daily departures per week, ensuring that passengers can travel at their convenience.
